Power Tilt and Trim routine inspections
- Check reservoir fluid level at least once per season or every 100 operating hours. System capacity is approximately 11.7 fl. oz. (345 mil):
- Tilt the motor and engage the trail lock levers.
- Support the engine's weight with a suitable hoist.
- Remove the fill plug.
- Add OMC Power Trim/Tilt and Power Steering Fluid or GM Dexron II, as needed, to bring its level to the bottom of the fill plug threads.
- Install the fill plug and torque to 45-55 in. Ibs. (5-6 Nm).
- Disengage the trail lock levers and the hoist.
- Cycle the unit at least 5 complete cycles to purge all air from the system. When cycling the unit, hold the trim switch ON an additional 5 to 10 seconds after the unit reaches the end of its travel before activating the switch in the opposite direction.
- Check the manual release valve with a torque wrench. The valve must be torqued to 45-55 in. Ibs. (5-6 Nm).
- Check for external signs of fluid leakage. Correct causes as necessary.
- Inspect the stern brackets for binding with the swivel bracket in the thrust rod area. Re-torque the tilt tube nuts as follows:
- Tighten the tilt tube nuts to a torque of 40-45 ft. Ibs. (54-60 Nm).
- Loosen one nut 1/8 to 1/4 turn after torquing.
- Check the battery's state of charge. Refer to Battery Specifications, Electrical Section.
